Description

A quick and decadent stuffed French toast recipe featuring a creamy filling and a delightful mix of fresh berries.


Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick bread like brioche or challah
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2 percent)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for frying
  • 1 cup mixed berries (blueberries, sliced strawberries)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Beat the softened cream cheese with the granulated sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture onto one side of four slices of bread and top each with another slice. Press edges to seal.
  3. In a shallow dish, whisk the egg, milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg together.
  4. Dip each stuffed sandwich into the batter, coating both sides.
  5. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat, and cook the stuffed French toast for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Cut each piece in half diagonally, serve warm topped with mixed berries and powdered sugar.

Notes

Use day-old bread to prevent sogginess; optionally add cocoa powder or mini chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
