Description

A rich and hearty Bolognese sauce that brings together the flavors of ground beef, pork, and slow-cooked perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
  • Parmesan cheese for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef and pork, break it up with a spoon, and cook until browned.
  5. Pour in red wine and let simmer for about 10 minutes until it reduces slightly.
  6. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, and basil. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  7. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
  8. After 4 hours, stir in whole milk and cook for another 30 minutes.
  9. Serve over pasta, garnished with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

For a deeper flavor, consider adding a bay leaf during simmering. You can also experiment with different herbs or add pancetta for extra richness.
