- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
- Buttercream frosting (for decorating)
- Food coloring (optional for floral patterns and bold themes)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, and include the vanilla extract.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl, and gradually add to the creamed mixture alternating with the milk.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Frost each layer with buttercream frosting and decorate as desired.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. Can be frozen for up to 3 months.
