Description

A comforting side dish of tender yams coated in a caramel-like glaze and topped with crunchy toasted pecans, perfect for holiday celebrations and cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium yams, peeled and cut into cubes
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup toasted pecans
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil. Add the yams and cook until tender, about 10-15 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt, cooking until smooth.
  4. In a baking dish, gently combine cooked yams with the buttery mixture, ensuring each yam is coated.
  5. Sprinkle toasted pecans over the yam mixture.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until yams are bubbling and caramelized.

Notes

For a unique twist, consider infusing spices or add orange zest to the sweet sauce. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
