Description

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place each chicken breast between two pieces of plastic wrap and pound to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  3. Layer each breast with a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese. Fold the chicken over to encase the filling and secure with toothpicks.
  4. Set up a breading station: one plate with flour, one plate with beaten eggs, and one plate with breadcrumbs mixed with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  5. Dredge each chicken roll in flour, dip in egg, and coat with breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 4-5 minutes.
  7. Transfer to a baking dish and pour in chicken broth if using. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and perfectly tender.
  8. Remove toothpicks, slice, and serve.

For extra flavor, consider adding herbs like thyme or rosemary to breadcrumbs. If short on time, skipping the pounding step is fine; just adjust cooking time slightly. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is perfectly cooked.
