Description

A nostalgic recipe for classic French toast made with fluffy brioche or challah, perfect for cozy breakfasts and brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices thick-sliced bread (preferably day-old brioche or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for greasing the skillet)
  • Maple syrup and powdered sugar, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Warm the skillet by placing a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar, and salt until smooth.
  3. Add the butter to the skillet and swirl to coat the surface.
  4. Soak each slice of bread in the custard for about 15–20 seconds per side.
  5. Cook the soaked bread slices for about 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Keep the toast warm in a low oven as you finish cooking the remaining slices.
  7. Serve the cooked French toast stacked on a plate, dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled with maple syrup.

Notes

Use day-old bread for better soaking. Don’t rush the cooking process for optimal flavor.
