- 4 pints fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced (about 8 cups)
- 12–16 ounces prepared shortcake, cut or torn into bite-sized pieces
- 3 cups heavy cream, cold
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- Optional garnishes: fresh mint leaves, extra sliced strawberries, white chocolate shavings, or shortcake crumbs
Instructions
- Prepare the strawberries by washing, hulling, and slicing about 6 cups for layering. Reserve the rest for garnish.
- Make the whipped cream by beating heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl until stiff peaks form.
- Prepare the cream cheese layer by combining softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and lemon zest, then folding in about 1 cup of whipped cream.
- Assemble the trifle in a large bowl with a layer of shortcake pieces at the bottom.
- Add half of the sliced strawberries over the shortcake layer.
- Spread half of the cream cheese mixture over the strawberries.
- Top with half of the remaining whipped cream.
- Repeat the layering with the remaining ingredients: shortcake, strawberries, cream cheese mixture, and whipped cream.
- Garnish the top with reserved strawberries and optional decorations.
- Chill for at least 2-4 hours or overnight.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
Notes
Use high-quality, ripe strawberries for the best flavor. This dessert can be made ahead of time to save on prep during gatherings.
