Description

This nostalgic homemade saltwater taffy is a chewy delight full of flavor and color, perfect for family fun and sweet celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients in a medium saucepan: granulated sugar, light corn syrup, water, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil and monitor with a candy thermometer until it reaches 260°F (127°C).
  3. Add butter and vanilla extract, and if desired, food coloring for your preferred taffy hue.
  4. Pour the hot mixture onto a greased marble slab or heatproof baking sheet and let cool for about 5 minutes.
  5. Pull the taffy by greasing your hands with butter and stretching and folding it for about 10-15 minutes until shiny and less sticky.
  6. Shape the taffy into a long rope and cut into bite-sized pieces, wrapping each in wax paper.

Notes

Store taffy in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. Individual wrapping helps preserve freshness.
