Ingredients

- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Combine ingredients in a medium saucepan: granulated sugar, light corn syrup, water, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and monitor with a candy thermometer until it reaches 260°F (127°C).
- Add butter and vanilla extract, and if desired, food coloring for your preferred taffy hue.
- Pour the hot mixture onto a greased marble slab or heatproof baking sheet and let cool for about 5 minutes.
- Pull the taffy by greasing your hands with butter and stretching and folding it for about 10-15 minutes until shiny and less sticky.
- Shape the taffy into a long rope and cut into bite-sized pieces, wrapping each in wax paper.
Notes
Store taffy in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. Individual wrapping helps preserve freshness.
