Description

Delightful red velvet cinnamon rolls topped with creamy frosting, combining the flavors of red velvet cake and cinnamon rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • Cream cheese frosting (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Whisk until evenly mixed.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, red food coloring, and melted butter.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing gently to form a soft dough.
  5. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Spread the mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon evenly over the dough, leaving a border.
  7. Starting from one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 even pieces.
  8. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until puffed and a skewer comes out clean.
  9. While warm, generously spread cream cheese frosting on top.

Notes

For a vegan option, substitute buttermilk with almond milk and vinegar, and replace the egg with flaxseed mixture.
