Description

A comforting one-pan meal of sautéed beef, onions, and tender cabbage, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (90/10 or leaner)
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium head of green cabbage, cored and roughly chopped or shredded
  • 1 cup beef broth (low sodium preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Optional Garnish: Chopped fresh parsley or green onions

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5-6 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and optional red pepper flakes, cooking until fragrant.
  3. Add the chopped cabbage, beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and dried thyme. Stir gently.
  4. Simmer the mixture, cover, and let cook for 15-20 minutes until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove the lid and season with salt and black pepper. If needed, increase heat to evaporate excess liquid.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with parsley or green onions if desired.
