Description

A nostalgic slow cooker Swiss steak with tender beef in a rich sauce, perfect for serving with mashed potatoes or crusty bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chuck steak or round steak
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or cornstarch/gluten-free flour for gluten-free option)
  • 1 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, divided
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Pat the beef steaks dry and lightly coat both sides with flour seasoned with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and quickly sear the coated steaks until browned on both sides.
  3. Place the steaks at the bottom of the slow cooker. Top with sliced onions and bell peppers.
  4. Pour the tomato sauce, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce over the top.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours until the beef is fork-tender.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, then let the dish rest uncovered for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, sautéed green beans, or a crisp salad. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
