Description

Warm, soft pretzel dogs filled with hot dogs and gooey cheese, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)
  • Hot dogs
  • Cheese sticks (string cheese or cheddar)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar; let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt; mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Divide the dough into pieces, then wrap each piece around hot dogs and cheese sticks.
  6. In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil.
  7. Briefly dip each wrapped dog into the boiling baking soda solution.
  8. Place the coated pretzel dogs on a baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve with spicy mustard, ketchup, or cheesy dipping sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
