Ingredients

- 2 cups warm water (110°F)
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg (beaten)
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
- Hot dogs
- Cheese sticks (string cheese or cheddar)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar; let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt; mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Divide the dough into pieces, then wrap each piece around hot dogs and cheese sticks.
- In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil.
- Briefly dip each wrapped dog into the boiling baking soda solution.
- Place the coated pretzel dogs on a baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve with spicy mustard, ketchup, or cheesy dipping sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
