Description

A comforting dish of slow-cooked pork shoulder braised in apple cider and fragrant herbs, perfect for family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 23 pounds pork shoulder
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 apples, sliced
  • 23 sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 23 sprigs of fresh rosemary
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for browning

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Heat a splash of olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
  3. Season the pork shoulder generously with salt and pepper and brown it on all sides.
  4. Set the browned pork aside.
  5. Sauté onions and apples until softened.
  6. Return the pork to the pot among the apples and onions.
  7. Pour the apple cider over the pork.
  8. Add the sprigs of thyme and rosemary.
  9. Cover the pot and bake for 3-4 hours until tender.
  10. Serve warm with pan juices drizzled over the pork.

Consider adding apple cider vinegar or brown sugar for enhanced sweetness. Adjust seasonings before serving.
