Description

A delightful blend of sweet and tart apples simmered with warm spices, perfect for apple pie or as an elegant topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups sliced apples (about 6 medium apples)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples by combining sliced apples with lemon juice in a large bowl.
  2. Mix the sugars and spices in a separate bowl until well combined.
  3. Coat the apples with the sugar mixture and toss until evenly coated.
  4. Let the coated apples rest for about 10 minutes.
  5. Transfer the apple mixture into a saucepan and cook over medium heat for 5-10 minutes.
  6. Add the butter to the saucepan and stir until melted.
  7. Cool the mixture before using it as a topping or filling.

Notes

Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
