Ingredients

- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg (beaten)
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
Instructions
- Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and shape them into bite-sized pretzel shapes.
- Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds in the baking soda solution before placing them on the baking sheet.
- Brush pretzels with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter and serve warm.
