Ingredients

- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg
- Coarse salt
Instructions
- Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour gradually and mix until a dough forms; knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, covered.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Boil water in a large pot and add baking soda.
- Roll the dough into small bites and drop them into boiling water for about 30 seconds.
- Place the bites on a baking sheet, brush with a beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
Best served warm. Ideal with mustard, cheese sauce, or your favorite dip. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to a month.
