- 3 cups sourdough starter
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup shredded cheese (e.g., cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1 tablespoon dried herbs (e.g., rosemary, thyme, or mixed herbs)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
Instructions
- Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix the sourdough starter, melted butter, salt, and dried herbs in another bowl.
- Gradually add the foamy yeast mixture and flour to the sourdough mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the risen dough and knead in the shredded cheese.
- Shape the dough into rolls and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Allow them to rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Brush with extra melted butter before serving.
Notes
These rolls are best served warm. They can be refrigerated or frozen for longer storage.
