Description

Light, fluffy sourdough rolls with a savory blend of cheese and herbs, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups sourdough starter
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (e.g., cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1 tablespoon dried herbs (e.g., rosemary, thyme, or mixed herbs)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the sourdough starter, melted butter, salt, and dried herbs in another bowl.
  3. Gradually add the foamy yeast mixture and flour to the sourdough mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Punch down the risen dough and knead in the shredded cheese.
  8. Shape the dough into rolls and place them in a greased baking dish.
  9. Allow them to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Brush with extra melted butter before serving.

Notes

These rolls are best served warm. They can be refrigerated or frozen for longer storage.
