Description

A rich and creamy side dish that transforms simple cabbage into a delightful addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 head Green Cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 1 cup Low-Sodium Chicken Broth
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1/2 cup Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Oil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped Parsley

Instructions

  1. Start by removing the core from the cabbage and slicing it into wedges.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the cabbage wedges and sear them for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and starting to soften.
  3. Remove the cabbage from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add butter and allow it to melt. Add the onion, cooking until softened.
  5. Stir in the garlic, cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. Add the broth, cream, Parmesan cheese, chili oil (if using), oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  7. Return the cabbage to the skillet, spooning the sauce over it.
  8. Cover and simmer for about 15-20 minutes until the cabbage is tender.
  9. If desired, mix the cornstarch with a bit of water and stir it into the sauce to thicken it.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

For extra richness, consider adding more butter or cream. Always season to taste, and you can steam the cabbage briefly before searing to reduce cooking time.
