Description

Delicious and easy-to-make French dip sandwiches made in a slow cooker, featuring tender beef and flavorful broth perfect for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 lb chuck roast
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Garlic powder (to taste)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 sliced onion
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 12 oz beef broth (plus additional for mixing)
  • 1 package Au Jus mix
  • 1½ cups beef broth
  • 6 sub rolls
  • Provolone cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Season the chuck roast with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the roast on all sides until browned.
  3. Remove the roast from the skillet and place it in the crockpot.
  4. Add sliced onions and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onions are softened.
  5. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, 12 oz of beef broth, and the Au Jus mix until well combined.
  6. Pour the onion mixture over the roast in the crockpot.
  7. Add the 1½ cups of beef broth to the crockpot.
  8. Cover and cook on low for 480 minutes or high for 240 minutes, until the meat is tender.
  9. Once the cooking time is up, shred the beef with two forks and mix it in the juices.
  10. Toast the sub rolls if desired.
  11. Pile the shredded beef on each roll and top with provolone cheese.
  12. Serve hot with the broth as a dipping sauce.

Notes

For a thicker dipping sauce, let the broth simmer until it reduces. Use good quality sub rolls to hold all the juicy goodness.
