- 1 tablespoon Water
- 1/4 cup Maple Syrup
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: Dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt.
- Cut Butter: Add cold butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine milk, egg yolks, and the activated yeast. Stir until combined.
- Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead Dough: Lightly knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth. Cover with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Prepare Filling: In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese and sugar until smooth.
- Roll and Cut Dough: Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface. Cut into squares or triangles.
- Fill and Shape: Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each piece of dough. Fold the corners to the center and pinch to seal.
- Brush and Bake: Mix the egg and water for the egg wash. Brush the tops of the pastries, then bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Finish with Syrup: Drizzle maple syrup over the baked pastries for added sweetness.
