Description

Indulge in a flaky and creamy cheese Danish that can be customized with fruits or nuts. Perfect for breakfast or snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 cup Warm Water
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Cold Butter
  • 1 cup 2% Milk
  • 2 large Egg Yolks
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese
  • 1/4 cup Sugar (for Filling)
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: Dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut Butter: Add cold butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine milk, egg yolks, and the activated yeast. Stir until combined.
  5. Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  6. Knead Dough: Lightly knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth. Cover with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
  7. Prepare Filling: In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese and sugar until smooth.
  8. Roll and Cut Dough: Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface. Cut into squares or triangles.
  9. Fill and Shape: Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each piece of dough. Fold the corners to the center and pinch to seal.
  10. Brush and Bake: Mix the egg and water for the egg wash. Brush the tops of the pastries, then bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Finish with Syrup: Drizzle maple syrup over the baked pastries for added sweetness.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Customize fillings with fruits or nuts. Store in an airtight container.
