- 4 Large eggs (Room temperature preferred)
- 2 cups Whole milk (Full-fat for creaminess)
- 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract (Pure preferred)
- 0.25 tsp Salt (Enhances sweetness)
- 0.125 tsp Ground nutmeg (Optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Place a roasting pan inside the oven.
- Heat 4–6 cups of water until hot but not boiling.
- In a medium bowl, gently whisk the eggs until they are fully combined.
- Add sugar and salt to the eggs, whisking until the mixture lightens in color.
- Slowly whisk in the milk and vanilla extract until everything is well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a baking dish or individual ramekins.
- If desired, sprinkle nutmeg on top.
- Carefully place the custard dish(es) in the preheated roasting pan.
- Slowly pour hot water into the roasting pan until it reaches halfway up the sides of the custard dish.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes (or 35–40 minutes for ramekins) until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
- Turn off the oven and let the custard cool in the water bath for 15 minutes before removing.
Notes
Serve warm or chilled; can be topped with whipped cream or cinnamon for extra flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
