Description

A comforting dish combining ground beef, breadcrumbs, and seasonings topped with rich gravy and mushrooms, perfect for family meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil (for the skillet)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef stock
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 6 ounces sliced cremini mushrooms
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Roasted broccoli

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, beaten egg, two teaspoons of ketchup, Dijon mustard, oregano, and salt. Mix until everything is well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into four oval patties that are about 3/4-inch thick.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about three minutes on each side until they are golden brown. Once done, remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and melt the butter. Whisk in the flour until you have a smooth mixture.
  5. Gradually add in the beef stock while stirring to avoid lumps.
  6. Stir in one tablespoon of ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and the sliced mushrooms. Simmer for about five minutes until the gravy thickens.
  7. Return the patties to the skillet and nestle them into the gravy. Cover and cook for about ten more minutes until the patties are fully cooked (the internal temperature should reach 160°F).
  8. Serve the Salisbury steak over a bed of mashed potatoes or your choice of sides.

Notes

For added flavor, mix in minced garlic or chopped onions into the beef mixture. Ensure patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F to avoid dryness.
