Description

A flaky, tender crust with a rich buttery flavor that enhances any filling for the perfect pie.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
  2. Add the chilled, diced butter and blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the mixture comes together.
  4. Divide the dough into two balls, wrap them in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 240 minutes or overnight.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness when ready to use.

Notes

Keep everything cold: Ensure your butter and water are very cold to get a flaky crust. Don’t over-mix to avoid tough crust.
