Description

This homemade pizza sauce is easy to make, fresher, and tastier than store-bought versions. Adjust the spices to suit your taste!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp balsamic vinegar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce and tomato paste, mixing well.
  4. Add the dried oregano, dried basil, onion powder, salt, sugar, crushed red pepper flakes, black pepper, and balsamic vinegar if using.
  5. Simmer the sauce for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with herbs and spices. For a richer sauce, use fire-roasted tomatoes instead of regular tomato sauce.
