A simple and rewarding sourdough bread recipe that yields a delightful flavor and crust.
Ingredients

- 2 teaspoons sourdough starter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 5 teaspoons water
- 1/4 cup active sourdough starter (100% hydration)
- 1 1/3 cups + 2 tablespoons water
- 2 teaspoons fine sea salt
- 4 cups + 2 tablespoons bread flour
Instructions
- Prepare the starter by mixing 2 teaspoons of sourdough starter, 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, and 5 teaspoons of water in a bowl. Let it sit at room temperature for about 8 hours or overnight until bubbly.
- In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup of active sourdough starter with 1 1/3 cups + 2 tablespoons of water. Add the prepared starter mixture and stir well.
- Gradually incorporate 2 teaspoons of fine sea salt and 4 cups + 2 tablespoons of bread flour until fully combined.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the kneaded dough in a covered bowl and let it rise at room temperature for about 240 minutes until doubled in size.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf on parchment paper and let it rise for another 60 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) along with your Dutch oven.
- Transfer the dough into the hot Dutch oven, cover, and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the lid and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
Use a kitchen scale for measuring ingredients. Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing.
