Description

A simple and rewarding sourdough bread recipe that yields a delightful flavor and crust.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 teaspoons sourdough starter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 5 teaspoons water
  • 1/4 cup active sourdough starter (100% hydration)
  • 1 1/3 cups + 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 4 cups + 2 tablespoons bread flour

Instructions

  1. Prepare the starter by mixing 2 teaspoons of sourdough starter, 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, and 5 teaspoons of water in a bowl. Let it sit at room temperature for about 8 hours or overnight until bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup of active sourdough starter with 1 1/3 cups + 2 tablespoons of water. Add the prepared starter mixture and stir well.
  3. Gradually incorporate 2 teaspoons of fine sea salt and 4 cups + 2 tablespoons of bread flour until fully combined.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a covered bowl and let it rise at room temperature for about 240 minutes until doubled in size.
  6. Shape the dough into a round loaf on parchment paper and let it rise for another 60 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) along with your Dutch oven.
  8. Transfer the dough into the hot Dutch oven, cover, and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the lid and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Use a kitchen scale for measuring ingredients. Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing.
