A rich and indulgent German Chocolate Cake that celebrates the flavors of chocolate, coconut, and pecans.

- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract into the dry mixture. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Carefully stir in the boiling water.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes.
- Combine the shredded coconut, chopped pecans, sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, and unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat for the frosting.
- Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
- Frost the top of one cake layer with the coconut-pecan mixture, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides.
Notes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
