Description

A rich and indulgent German Chocolate Cake that celebrates the flavors of chocolate, coconut, and pecans.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. Whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract into the dry mixture. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Carefully stir in the boiling water.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes.
  7. Combine the shredded coconut, chopped pecans, sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, and unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat for the frosting.
  8. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
  9. Frost the top of one cake layer with the coconut-pecan mixture, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides.

Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
