Celebrate the Jewish New Year with this delightful Honey and Apple dessert that symbolizes a sweet year ahead.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped apples
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • 1 cup dates (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1 cup dried fruits (if making fruit desserts)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Whisk together honey and sugar until well combined.
  3. Add eggs and applesauce, then mix until smooth.
  4. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in another bowl.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
  6. Fold in chopped apples, nuts, dates, and pomegranate seeds.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased cake pan or muffin tins.
  8. Bake for 40-50 minutes for a cake or 20-25 minutes for muffins, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
