- 1 cup full-fat plain Greek yogurt
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
- 1 tablespoon water or milk (for egg wash, optional)
- Toppings: everything bagel seasoning, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, flaked sea salt, dried minced garlic, dried minced onion, grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine the self-rising flour and Greek yogurt in a large mixing bowl. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 5-8 minutes until smooth, soft, and no longer overly sticky.
- Divide the dough into 4-6 equal portions.
- Roll each portion into an 8-10 inch rope and pinch the ends together to form a ring (or roll into a ball and poke a hole through the center).
- Place the shaped bagels on the prepared baking sheet.
- Whisk one egg with water or milk for an egg wash. Brush over bagel tops and sprinkle with desired toppings.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow when tapped.
- Transfer bagels to a wire rack to cool slightly.
Notes
For best results, use full-fat Greek yogurt and knead the dough gently to avoid tough bagels.
