Description
A delightful dish combining sweet and savory flavors, featuring caramelized shallots and crispy bacon, perfect as a side for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound shallots
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (or olive oil)
- 3–4 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Start by peeling the shallots. You can cut them in half if they are large.
- In a large skillet, add the chopped bacon over medium heat. Cook until crispy. Remove the bacon and place it on a paper towel to drain excess grease.
- In a pot, bring water to a boil. Add the peeled shallots and cook for about 3–5 minutes to soften them. Drain and set aside.
- Add the parboiled shallots to the same skillet with the bacon drippings or in a clean skillet with butter or oil. Stir them for a few minutes until they start to brown.
- Mix in the honey, Worcestershire sauce, and balsamic vinegar. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Cook for another 10-15 minutes until the shallots are nicely glazed and tender.
- Just before serving, sprinkle the crispy bacon over the shallots, stirring gently to combine.
Notes
For added flavor, consider fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary while cooking. Adjust honey for sweetness as desired.
