Description
A tender and flavorful Hawaiian dish, Kalua Pork is slow-cooked to perfection, capturing the essence of traditional Hawaiian cooking.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4–5 lbs pork shoulder
- 1 tablespoon sea salt
- 2 tablespoons liquid smoke
- Banana leaves (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Rub the pork shoulder generously with sea salt and liquid smoke.
- Lay banana leaves in the bottom of a large roasting pan if using.
- Cover the pork with more banana leaves if desired, and tightly cover the pan with foil.
- Bake for 6-8 hours or until the meat is tender and falls apart.
- Remove from the oven and shred the pork into chunky pieces using two forks.
Notes
Allow the cooked pork to rest for about 30 minutes before shredding for maximum tenderness. Use banana leaves for authenticity, but it’s fine without them.
