Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (lean)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (optional)
  • 1/2 small onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce (sugar-free)
  • 3 oz cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • sour cream (optional)
  • diced avocado (optional)
  • jalapeños (optional)
  • green onions (optional)
  • cilantro (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Add olive oil to a skillet over medium heat, and sauté the diced onion and minced garlic for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and soft.
  3. Cook the ground beef in the skillet until browned, breaking it up with a spatula for even cooking, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  5. Pour in the tomato sauce and add the cream cheese. Stir until melted and creamy.
  6. Spread the beef mixture evenly into a small baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese generously over the beef mixture.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.
  9. Let the casserole sit for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm with optional toppings like sour cream, diced avocado, jalapeños, green onions, or cilantro.

Notes

For a creamier texture, ensure to stir the cream cheese well with the beef mixture. Adjust spices to taste for preference.
