Description

A delightful twist on the classic sandwich, combining savory ham and turkey with gooey Swiss cheese, all encased in golden-brown French toast. Perfect for brunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices white bread or brioche (Thick slices preferred)
  • 8 slices deli ham
  • 8 slices deli turkey
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk (For batter)
  • 2 tbsp butter (For frying)
  • Powdered sugar (For dusting)
  • Raspberry or strawberry jam (For dipping)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (Optional)
  • Dijon mustard (Spread lightly on bread)
  • Gruyere cheese (Optional, instead of Swiss)
  • Honey (Drizzle on top)
  • Fresh berries (For serving)

Instructions

  1. Lay out 4 slices of bread. On each slice, layer 2 slices of ham, 2 slices of turkey, and 2 slices of Swiss cheese. Top with the remaining slices of bread and press gently.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Dip each sandwich fully in the egg batter, letting the excess drip off.
  4. Fry each sandwich for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  5. Cut the sandwiches diagonally, dust heavily with powdered sugar, and serve warm with jam for dipping.

Notes

Use thick slices of bread or brioche for a heartier sandwich. Let the sandwich sit for a minute after frying to allow the cheese to set slightly before cutting. Feel free to experiment with different cheeses like Gruyere for a different flavor profile.
