Description

A creamy and cheesy potato dish that pairs perfectly with steak or chicken, ideal for family dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large Russet Potatoes (or Yukon Gold)
  • 1 medium Onion (or Shallots)
  • 1 cup Sour Cream (or Greek yogurt)
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter (or Olive oil)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 2 cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese (or Gruyère)
  • 1/4 cup Chives/Green Onions (or Parsley)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut them into thin slices.
  3. Dice the onion into small pieces.
  4. In a pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until soft.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked onions, sliced potatoes, sour cream, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  6. Layer half of the potato mixture in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle half of the cheese on top.
  7. Add the remaining potato mixture and finish with the rest of the cheese.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Top with chopped chives or green onions for added freshness. For a crispier top, broil for a few minutes.
