- 2 cups almond flour
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 large egg whites
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (red, white, blue)
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 3–4 cups powdered sugar (for filling)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
- 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream (for filling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Sift together the almond flour and powdered sugar in a bowl.
- Whisk the egg whites in a separate bowl until frothy. Gradually add the granulated sugar and keep beating until stiff peaks form.
- Fold the dry ingredients into the egg whites gently.
- Divide the batter into three bowls and add food coloring to each: red, white, and blue.
- Pipe small rounds onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Let the macarons sit at room temperature for 30-60 minutes until they form a skin.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes. Let them cool completely.
- Beat together the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream until smooth for the filling.
- Pipe the filling onto one macaron shell and top it with another. Enjoy!
Notes
Macarons can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or frozen for up to a month with parchment paper between layers.
