Description

Delightful twist on classic Pop-Tarts with rich brown sugar and luscious salted caramel filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup salted caramel sauce
  • Sea salt flakes for sprinkling
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp whole milk or cream
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cream together the softened butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Mix the flour, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half. Press half of the dough into the prepared baking dish evenly to form the bottom layer.
  6. Spread the salted caramel sauce over the dough, then crumble the remaining dough on top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bars are golden brown. Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Whisk together the powdered sugar, whole milk or cream, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars. Finish by sprinkling a few sea salt flakes on top.

Notes

These bars are best enjoyed at room temperature. Accompany with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or coffee for a special treat.
