Description
Delightful twist on classic Pop-Tarts with rich brown sugar and luscious salted caramel filling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1.5 cups packed light brown sugar
- 0.5 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup salted caramel sauce
- Sea salt flakes for sprinkling
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp whole milk or cream
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cream together the softened butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.
- Mix the flour, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
- Divide the dough in half. Press half of the dough into the prepared baking dish evenly to form the bottom layer.
- Spread the salted caramel sauce over the dough, then crumble the remaining dough on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bars are golden brown. Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whisk together the powdered sugar, whole milk or cream, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars. Finish by sprinkling a few sea salt flakes on top.
Notes
These bars are best enjoyed at room temperature. Accompany with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or coffee for a special treat.
