Description

A classic Southern fried chicken recipe with a wonderfully seasoned batter that delivers a crispy and flavorful coating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • Chicken pieces (legs, thighs, wings, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl, combining flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Prepare the chicken by dipping each piece into buttermilk, allowing it to soak.
  3. Dredge the buttermilk-soaked chicken in the seasoned flour mixture until well coated.
  4. Heat oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the coated chicken pieces in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
  6. Cook until golden brown and crispy, about 15-18 minutes per side, ensuring an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
  7. Drain excess oil from the chicken on paper towels before serving hot.

Notes

For extra crunch, ensure your oil is hot enough and avoid turning the chicken too soon. This recipe can be baked at 400°F for a healthier option.
