Description

A delicious twist on a classic appetizer with gooey mozzarella, crispy bacon, and a spicy coating.


Ingredients

  • 12 oz low-moisture mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon (or turkey bacon)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
  • 2 large eggs (or egg substitute)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Panko)
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In Bowl 1, combine the flour, salt, and pepper.
  2. In Bowl 2, beat the eggs until well mixed.
  3. In Bowl 3, mix the breadcrumbs, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. Wrap each mozzarella stick in a slice of bacon, ensuring complete coverage.
  5. Dip each bacon-wrapped stick into the flour mixture, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with the breadcrumb mixture.
  6. Place the coated sticks on a plate and freeze for about 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) or heat oil in a deep fryer.
  8. Bake the sticks for about 15 minutes or fry until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Use low-moisture mozzarella to prevent oozing. Freezing the sticks is crucial for keeping cheese intact.
