Instructions
- Preheat the Oven and Prepare Your Pans: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and liberally grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- Combine the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well mixed.
- Mix the Wet Ingredients and Incorporate Boiling Water: Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mix. Stir until well combined and then slowly pour in the boiling water while mixing.
- Bake the Cake Layers: Evenly distribute the batter among the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Make the Cream Cheese Frosting: Beat the cream cheese and unsalted butter together until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth and fluffy. Fold in the pureed strawberries.
- Layer the Cake: Once cooled, layer with homemade strawberry jam and sliced strawberries between the cake layers.
- Frost and Decorate: Top with frosting and decorate as desired.
