Description

Creamy, cheesy scalloped potatoes make for a comforting side dish perfect for gatherings and family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Layer half of the potatoes in the dish, followed by half of the sliced onions and garlic. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cheese over the top.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and garlic.
  6. Pour the heavy cream evenly over the top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven, uncover, and sprinkle with the remaining cheese and thyme if using.
  9. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  10. Let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding cooked bacon or ham. Choose starchy potatoes like Russet or Yukon Gold for the best texture.
