- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Layer half of the potatoes in the dish, followed by half of the sliced onions and garlic. Season with salt and pepper.
- Sprinkle half of the cheese over the top.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and garlic.
- Pour the heavy cream evenly over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove from the oven, uncover, and sprinkle with the remaining cheese and thyme if using.
- Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let it sit for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider adding cooked bacon or ham. Choose starchy potatoes like Russet or Yukon Gold for the best texture.
